The driver of a Nissan Skyline crashed into a vacant building near the Bush Inn Centre in Upper Riccarton this afternoon.
A St John spokesman said emergency services were called to a motor vehicle incident on Waimairi Road at 2.34pm.
A police spokesman told Chris Lynch Media the driver hit several parked cars before crashing into a building.
A witness told chrislynchmedia.com the driver appeared to lose control, hit a street pole, cross the centre line and crash into the building formerly occupied by Lone Star. The building was vacant at the time.
It didn’t go through the building but there was structural damage.
The St John spokesman said an ambulance was sent to the scene.

“Our ambulance staff treated one patient and transported them to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition.”
Police enquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing.
It is understood the driver may have suffered a medical event, although police have not confirmed this.
