Armed police arrest two after Christchurch firearms incident

Armed police swarmed a property in Christchurch overnight after reports of people brandishing a firearm and making threats from a vehicle.

A police spokeswoman said the call came in about 1.20am from the Shirley area.

Officers made enquiries and tracked the vehicle to a property on Marshland Road. Cordons were put in place while armed police attended as a precaution.

Two people were taken into custody at the scene.

A 32 year old man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 18 August, facing multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of cannabis plant for supply.

A 28 year old man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 25 August, charged with obstructing police.
