Two people have been taken into custody following what police have described as an altercation in New Brighton this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com officers were called to Palmer Road about 4pm after reports of several people armed with weapons.

A witness said he saw six police cars on the corner of Wainoni Road and Cuffs Road where a vehicle had been stopped.

The Armed Offenders Squad attended as a precaution.

“There were no injuries reported, and at least two people are in custody assisting with our enquiries,” the spokeswoman said.
