Multiple police officers, including members of the Armed Offenders Squad, were deployed to Waikuku in North Canterbury this evening.

Chris Lynch Media received multiple reports from residents describing a significant police presence in the area.

It’s understood officers were searching for a ‘dangerous’ man who has a warrant for his arrest and was actively avoiding police.

One resident said they witnessed approximately 10 emergency vehicles heading north along the highway.

The resident said the convoy included police vehicles, Armed Offenders Squad members, an ambulance, first responders and a police communications van.

It is not yet clear whether the man has been located or taken into custody.

Police have been approached for comment.
