Police expect to complete scene examinations today at two Buller properties where two people were found dead on Tuesday.

Tasman District Police Detective Inspector Geoff Baber said the investigation into the deaths at a State Highway 7 property at Rahu Saddle and a Maimai Road property remained ongoing.

One body was removed yesterday, with the second due to be removed this morning. Both will undergo postmortem examinations in Christchurch in the coming days.

Police launched a homicide investigation after emergency services were called to the Rahu Saddle address about 7.50am on Tuesday following concerns for a person.

A person was found dead at the property. Further enquiries led police to the Maimai Road address, where a second person was found dead.

Baber previously said police did not believe there was any risk to the public and were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

“We acknowledge people will be understandably shaken following this incident. We are providing support to the loved ones of those who died and the wider community,” he said.

Members of the public can expect a continued police presence in the area while enquiries are completed.
