Two children have been arrested after a stolen vehicle led police on a major operation across southwest Christchurch.
Christchurch Metro Area Commander Superintendent Lane told chrislynchmedia.com “about 10.45am, police received a number of reports of cars having been broken into in the Halswell area.
“Due to the reported manner of driving, Police utilised a commercial helicopter to assist staff on the ground in apprehending those allegedly responsible.
“At around 2.10pm, after the successful deployment of preventive road spikes, the vehicle came to a stop on Lincoln Tai Tapu Road.
Two youths have since been taken into custody. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. Police thank the Christchurch community for their patience while this incident was ongoing.”
Police have not confirmed their ages, but multiple witnesses and chrislynchmedia.com editor Chris Lynch, who saw them in Longhurst, described them as children.

Footage sent to chrislynchmedia.com shows two young children handcuffed with one child on the ground, and another child handcuffed up against a police car.
Nobody was injured.
