A group of Hōhepa Canterbury participants will celebrate months of learning and creativity when they showcase their new skills at a special Christchurch DJ party on Wednesday night.

Hōhepa Canterbury is teaming up with Exchange Christchurch, known as XCHC, for the Hōhepa DJ Party from 6pm to 9pm on Wednesday.

The event marks the completion of an Immersive Arts Course undertaken by members of Hōhepa’s LEAP programme during Term 3.

Participants have spent the term learning DJing, lighting, event hospitality and event operations at XCHC, gaining practical experience within Christchurch’s creative arts and events community.

Wednesday night’s event will give them the opportunity to put those skills into practice, with participants helping deliver the evening alongside the experienced XCHC team.

Hōhepa Canterbury said the course had helped participants develop practical skills, confidence and connections while taking part in a mainstream creative environment.

Hōhepa Canterbury has supported adults with intellectual disabilities in Christchurch since 1965 and provides residential living, community participation programmes and therapies.

XCHC provides a community space for creative practitioners to develop their work, host events and connect with the wider community.

The Hōhepa DJ Party will feature music, dancing, food and drinks.

Tickets cost $15 online or $20 at the door.
