Police have seized more than half a kilogram of methamphetamine, worth an estimated $150,000, during a search of a Christchurch property.

Members of the Canterbury Major and Organised Crime Unit executed a search warrant at a Lyttelton Street, Spreydon, address on Friday as part of an investigation.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Brad Grainger said officers found and seized about 505 grams of methamphetamine.

“Police located and seized approximately 505 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than $150,000,” Grainger said.

A 54-year-old man was taken into custody and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Saturday, charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.

Grainger said the seizure had stopped a significant quantity of methamphetamine from reaching the community.

“We see firsthand the harm this can cause our community and every seizure represents fewer opportunities for organised criminal groups to profit from the harm caused,” he said.
