A person has been critically injured in a two-car crash in Rangiora this afternoon.

Senior Sergeant Craig Ellison said emergency services were called to Percival Street about 12.45pm.

The crash happened between Johns Road and Victoria Street.

One person was reported to be in a critical condition, while another had moderate injuries.

Ellison said the road would remain closed while the Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination.

Diversions are in place and members of the public are being asked to avoid the area.
