Christchurch residents are being encouraged to donate new winter pyjamas to help support vulnerable families during the colder months.
Christchurch Attractions has announced its annual winter appeal in partnership with The Salvation Army, with this year’s campaign focused on collecting warm pyjamas for people in need across the city.
A Christchurch Tram will be stationed in Cathedral Square from 11am to 2pm on Wednesday 8 July to receive donations, which will then be distributed by The Salvation Army.
Christchurch Attractions chief executive Marty Byrne said the organisation was pleased to be partnering with The Salvation Army for a fourth consecutive year.
“We’re delighted to be working with The Salvation Army for a fourth consecutive year on such an important initiative. Winter nights in Christchurch can be especially cold, so helping provide warm pyjamas is a meaningful way to help people in need. We hope to see plenty of Cantabrians joining us in Cathedral Square to support this fantastic cause.”
People who donate a new pair of pyjamas with tags attached will receive a complimentary adult Christchurch Tram ticket, valued at $42.
The organisations are seeking donations of children’s, women’s and men’s winter pyjamas in all sizes.
The collection coincides with Christchurch Attractions’ Kids Go Free promotion during the winter school holidays, allowing up to three children to travel free on the trams when accompanied by a paying adult.
The initiative is being run in conjunction with The Salvation Army and the Central City Business Association.
Further information is available through Christchurch Attractions.
