Clothing seized from a man’s home has led to his arrest over a burglary and vehicle theft spree across North Canterbury and Christchurch.
The 40-year-old appeared in the Christchurch District Court today on two counts of theft, one of burglary, and two of driving while disqualified.
He has been remanded in custody until 29 May.
Police allege the offending spanned several weeks in March and April 2026, including a commercial burglary at a Rangiora building supply store, along with stolen vehicles and fuel drive-offs.
The Canterbury Rural Tactical Crime Unit led the investigation alongside multiple specialist police workgroups.
A search warrant at the man’s home turned up clothing and footwear consistent with items worn during the alleged offending, along with other evidential material.
Senior Sergeant Rachel Walker, Area Prevention Manager, said vehicle owners should remove or obscure registration plates when advertising online and secure them with tamper-proof screws, as stolen and counterfeit plates are commonly used to conceal offending.
