Emergency services were called to a primary school in Ashburton this morning after reports children were feeling unwell following a chemical incident.
Fire and Emergency Southern Communications shift manager Blair Walklin told chrislynchmedia.com students from St Joseph’s School were taken to hospital.
Three crews from Ashburton Fire Station attended the scene at the request of St John.
Walklin said a low chemical reading was recorded, but crews had since made the scene safe and left the school.
Police said they were notified of an incident at a school on Havelock Street about 10.20am.
Students had earlier attended church, but it’s understood the chemical reading was recorded at the school.
