State Highway 7 has been closed between McRaes Road and Mt Alexander Road following a serious single vehicle crash this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 6.40am.

Initial enquiries indicated there were serious injuries, a police spokeswoman said.

The Serious Crash Unit had been advised.

Traffic management was in place and motorists were asked to expect delays while emergency services worked at the scene.

St John said it was notified of the motor vehicle incident.
Three ambulances, one helicopter, one rapid response unit, and two operations managers attended.
Three patients were transported to Christchurch Hospital in total, two in serious condition and one in moderate condition.
One of the serious condition patients was taken to hospital by helicopter, with the others by road ambulance.
