Air New Zealand is offering flexible travel options for customers flying in and out of Christchurch, ahead of severe weather conditions forecast to hit the South Island tomorrow.

With MetService issuing a number of Severe Weather Warnings for the Canterbury region and beyond, Air New Zealand says it is preparing for significant disruption to its schedule, particularly affecting flights to and from Christchurch, Wellington, and Dunedin on Thursday, 23 October.

Alex Marren, Air New Zealand’s Chief Operating Officer, said safety remains the airline’s top priority as it closely monitors the evolving weather situation.

“Based on the latest forecasts, we’re expecting disruption to a number of services tomorrow,” said Marren. “We’d like to thank customers in advance for their patience and understanding as our teams work hard to get everyone to their destinations safely.”

To minimise disruption for travellers, the airline is offering customers flexibility to change their bookings free of charge.

Passengers scheduled to fly to or from Christchurch, Wellington, or Dunedin on Thursday can change their flights to any time within 48 hours of their original departure, at no cost, via the Air New Zealand app.

“We know travel disruptions are frustrating, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding as we manage the impact of the weather,” Marren added.

Air New Zealand is urging all travellers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport and to allow extra time for travel, especially around Christchurch where heavy rain and strong winds are expected to impact road conditions as well.
