The Smiths City liquidation sale will finish on Sunday with all remaining stock sold at 70 percent off the lowest in-store ticketed prices.
The sale at stores in Auckland, Christchurch, Oamaru, Alexandra and Invercargill will run until 5pm on Sunday 14 September, and it includes cooking equipment, household linen and home décor.
Stores in Gore and Greymouth sold out of stock by Wednesday and are now closed, as is the Dunedin store.
Following the appointment as administrators in early September, Colin Gower, Licensed Insolvency Practitioner and Diana Matchett, Chartered Accountant and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, both of BDO Christchurch, completed an urgent assessment of the company and stocktake. Eight of the nine Smiths City stores reopened for a liquidation sale from Friday 5 September.
The administrators have confirmed that Smiths City staff will be paid 100 percent of their holiday pay by the end of this month.
Several large local retailers have reached out with employment opportunities for Smiths City staff, and these are being explored by individual team members.
