A man is in critical condition following a stabbing incident in Linwood early this morning.

Police said they were called to a property on Norwich Street just after 2AM.

When officers arrived, they found a man with a stab wound to his hand who required medical treatment.

A second man was also located at the address in an unwell condition, but police said this is believed to have been a medical event.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

A St John spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com two rapid response units, two ambulances, and an operations manager responded to the scene.

Two patients were transported to Christchurch Hospital, one in moderate condition and one in critical condition.

Police said enquiries are ongoing to determine what occurred.
