State Highway 75 near Birdlings Flat has reopened after fallen trees forced its closure during strong winds overnight.
Contractors resumed work at first light to remove trees blocking the highway near Bayleys Road, on the main route between Christchurch and Banks Peninsula.
A temporary speed restriction is in place, and road users are being urged to take extra care when travelling through the area.
Drivers are also being warned to watch for surface flooding between Birdlings Flat and Little River.
