Police are requesting the public to restrict any unnecessary travel in Nelson Bays as “the area is being hit by adverse weather conditions”.

State Highway 60, Belgrove to Richmond is closed, as is State Highway 60, Richmond to Riwaka.

Furthermore, police have asked the public to especially avoid Belgrove, Wakefield, Brightwater, Richmond, Whakatu Drive, Appleby, Redwood, and Riwaka.

“In extreme conditions, please limit yourself to essential travel only, ensure you have had your brakes and windscreen wipers checked,” a police spokesperson said.

“Reducing speed, using headlights and watching your visibility will also ensure a safe trip,” they said.
