Three young people have been taken into custody following a serious assault near the Christchurch Bus Interchange.

A police spokesperson told chrislynchmedia.com that officers were alerted to an assault involving a group of people on Lichfield Street at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

When police arrived, they found one person with moderate injuries who was taken to hospital by officers.

Three youths were located nearby a short time later and taken into custody.

Police are continuing their enquiries to locate the remaining alleged offenders, the police spokesman said.
