A unit in Mairehau has been destroyed by a fire.

A Fire and Emergency spokeswoman told Chris Lynch Media they received multiple calls to the fire on Briggs Road at 9.15PM.

By the time the fire appliances arrived on the scene the unit was well ablaze.

The fire didn’t spread to neighbouring properties.

The spokeswoman said all occupants were accounted for.

However, there was substantial damage to the property and the occupants required alternative accommodation.

Briggs Road was blocked off in both directions while fire crews investigated the cause of the blaze.

It’s not thought to be suspicious at this stage.
