Emergency services are responding to a serious crash on the Thames Highway, near Oamaru.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at around 10:15pm, between Weaver Street and Foyle Street.

Police say initial indications are at least one person has sustained serious injuries.

Diversions are being put in place and motorists should avoid the area.

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
