A customer at Countdown Kaiapoi has been trespassed after threatening to punch staff members in the head.

The incident happened just after midday at the Hilton Street supermarket.

Kaiapoi resident Jess Ruru said she was waiting in line near the counter, when the man in front of her became aggressive towards staff.

“He lost the plot after being told to pack his bags at the car.”

Ms Ruru said the incident was quite scary because he threatened to punch the staff member.

“I actually thought he would.”

In the video, the man is seen yelling and threatening violence on staff members.

He threatened to punch one staff member and “break your bald fu**** head” at another, before throwing some of his groceries on the floor.

As he walked out of the store he asked for a discount.

A police spokeswoman said officers responded to a report of person behaving aggressively.

She said police arrived and the person was trespassed.

Countdown’s general manager health & safety, Kiri Hannifin said “we know that this is a very unsettling time for all Kiwis. “

“But there is absolutely no excuse for anyone to be rude, physically or verbally abusive to any of our team and we will not stand for it.”

“The person in question has been trespassed from our store.”

Ms Hannifin said “as part of our Alert Level three and two policies we reintroduced today, we will not be packing customers shopping into bags.”

“This is the same policy we had in March and April during lockdown level four. “

“We would like to remind all our customers that we have plenty of food and supplies, there is no need to stock-up. Please shop as normal and remember to be kind and respectful of our team.”
