A pilot is reported to be “conscious and breathing” after a helicopter crash in Karamea in the Buller District.
A police spokesperson said emergency services received a report that a helicopter crashed about 4pm today.
The pilot was the only person on board the helicopter when it crashed near the Last Resort hotel.
A resident, who didn’t want to be named, said the chopper went down about a hundred metres from a local cafe.
A rescue helicopter was called to the scene.
The pilot was airlifted to Nelson Hospital in a serious condition.
The Civil Aviation Authority is now investigating.
