Philippine Independence Day celebration
Come along to Tūranga from 1 – 3pm Saturday to celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence Day Celebration ‘Araw ng Kasarinlan.’ Experience and enjoy Philippine culture, history, arts and music. Immerse yourself through songs from Musika Filipinas Aotearoa, Philippine Culture and Migrant Services Trust and Dijamco Family.
There will also be Philippine activity booklets available for children , no bookings required.
Matariki Just Another Dune Day
Bring a pair of gardening gloves and your enthusiasm down to New Brighton Library this weekend for a cuppa and kōrero with Ranger Jason before heading out to plant for Matariki Just Another Dune Day. The planting session will be held from 10am – 12.30pm Saturday, and all other equipment and plants are provided.
Attendees are encouraged to bring any old photos of New Brighton to share with the wider community. This session is part of the annual month-long Matariki celebration throughout the Christchurch City Libraries network. City Nature Challenge – Bugs in your backyard
Come and explore Bugs in your backyard at Tūranga over the weekend – an interactive exhibition pod on loan from the Canterbury Museum. Learn new facts about bugs and have a go at spotting them on the miniature riverbank.
Head over to Christchurch’s central library any time over the weekend – the interactive pod will be on display until 2 July.
Short Film Event – World Refugee Day
Celebrate World Refugee Day (20 June) on Sunday this weekend at the Christchurch Art Gallery with a free, open-to-the-public film event. This event will be run by Amnesty International Christchurch in partnership with Quakers Aotearoa and local refugee support services.
This curation of short family-friendly films will feature the lives and challenges of being a refugee today, especially in some of the world’s ‘hot spots’. The event will be on from 2 – 3.30pm Sunday, more here.
Garden City Orchestra Concert: Ain’t She Suite
Community orchestra, Garden City Orchestra, will be performing at Aldersgate Centre, 309 Durham Street this Sunday afternoon. The concerts focus is on suites – short, musical pieces, often based on dances.
During the intermission the orchestra will host a home-baked afternoon tea for a koha donation. Tickets cost $5 for children and $15 for adults, more here.
