Two people have been arrested and charged after a man was seriously injured in an assault that police say began in Aranui before he was found in Waltham.
Police were called to an address on Opawa Road at about 11.50am on Thursday, where they found an injured man. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
Detective Sergeant Luke Vaughan said extensive enquiries began immediately, with officers establishing the man had allegedly been assaulted at a property on Merrington Crescent in Aranui about 20 minutes earlier.
A 29 year old man and a 35 year old woman were arrested at the Merrington Crescent address. Both are due to appear in Christchurch District Court today charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The development follows a large emergency response in Waltham on Thursday, where police and Hato Hone St John attended the scene on Opawa Road.
Hato Hone St John previously said it responded with one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles, with one patient transported to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who were in the Merrington Crescent area between 11.05am and 11.30am on Thursday 16 July.
“If you saw or heard anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, please get in touch. Even details that may seem small to you could be of significance to our investigation,” Vaughan said.
