Three youths who attempted to rob a Christchurch petrol station overnight will appear in court today after police deployed road spikes to stop their vehicle.

It was the third incident of its type over the weekend.

A Z Energy service station in Hei Hei was targeted early Monday morning.

As first reported by Chris Lynch Media, a Z station in Addington was also targeted, along with the Z station on Moorhouse Avenue on Saturday night, but police said they couldn’t confirm if all three were linked.

In the latest incident, a police spokesperson said police received a report of an attempted robbery at a commercial premises on Carmen Road in Hei Hei around 1.05am.

The spokesperson said offenders had smashed the entryway and attempted to steal items, armed with possible weapons, before leaving in a vehicle.

Police attended and tracked the vehicle, successfully deploying road spikes on Cashmere Road around 1.50am.

Two young people were immediately apprehended. A third young person was arrested shortly after with assistance from the dog unit.

Three young people will appear in the Christchurch Youth Court today on charges relating to the incident.

A Z spokesperson said, “Our immediate priority has been supporting the team, and we’re ensuring they have the care and assistance they need.

“We’re also working closely with Police so we are not in a position to comment further or share any additional details at this stage.”
