A fire at a vacant property in Papanui overnight is being treated as suspicious.

Multiple fire appliances were called to the scene on Grassmere Street shortly before 6PM.

By the time crews arrived, the property was well ablaze.

Residents say it is not the first time emergency services have been called to the address.

A fire investigator is at the scene today to determine the cause of the blaze.
