A haul of stolen road signs has been recovered on the West Coast, thanks to the combined efforts of police and vigilant locals.
Among the signs was one from Timaru, discovered far from home in what the council described as “the best Coast.”
A Grey District Council spokesperson said, “While it might seem like a harmless prank, replacing stolen signs comes at a significant cost around $400 each.
“In this case, the total was more than $4000. That’s money that could have been better spent on fixing roads, maintaining parks, or supporting other essential services.”
The council urged residents to report suspicious behaviour.
“If you see something, say something,” the spokesperson said.
