Emergency Services are at the scene of a serious crash involving a car and truck in Kaiapoi.

The accident happened on Main North Road – the closest cross road is Sandhill Road.

Police were advised at 11.41 am.

A police spokeswoman says one person was injured and a helicopter heading to the scene.

It’s understood emergency services had to rescue a patient from a vehicle, who was trapped inside for a short time.

A St John spokesman says a female patient has sustained serious injuries.

He says one ambulance attended the accident along with two rapid response units.

The Christchurch Transport Operations Centre says the crash is blocking State Highway One – Pineacres between Williams St and Pa Rd.

The road is closed to southbound traffic, northbound remains open under traffic management. 

Motorists are advised to take extra care and expect delays.
