A serious crash has closed State Highway 7 in the Tekoa Range area of Hurunui this afternoon.

Police said they were notified around 12.00pm to a two vehicle crash on State Highway 7 Mouse Point Road between Hammer Springs Road and Leslie Hills Road.

The crash involved a motorcycle and a car, with initial indications suggesting serious injuries.

A police spokesperson said the Serious Crash Unit had been advised and would attend.

State Highway 7 Mouse Point Road was closed in both directions, with diversions in place.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area where possible and expect delays while emergency services responded.
