Police have arrested a second teenager in Christchurch overnight in relation to an aggravated robbery on Wairakei Road on Sunday 30 November.

The 17 year old handed himself in to police last night and is due to appear in the Youth Court today charged with aggravated robbery.

Canterbury District Commander Superintendent Tony Hill said this is the second arrest since police launched a new operation yesterday aimed at targeting the recent rise in youth offending across the region.

Hill said police staff were using all available resources to identify those responsible.

“Police staff around the region will continue to use all available resources to identify and locate those involved in recent youth offending, and ensure they are held to account.”

He urged others involved to come forward.

“We urge anybody else who has been involved in this activity to do the right thing and talk to police.”

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to contact police on 105 and reference Operation Anchor.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
