A Christchurch medical centre is warning other local businesses to be vigilant after falling victim to a trademark scam.

The company, which we’ve agreed not to name, is wanting to get the word out to other businesses, after paying $1300 to what it thought was a bill for renewing its trademark.

The manager says the fake invoice looked genuine because the real trademark consultancy company’s computer system was compromised.

She says the ANZ and BNZ fraud teams have been advised of the scam.

In February ANZ warned customers that scammers were requesting remote access to computers, enabling the scammer to fraudulently obtain internet banking log in details and then later steal funds.

Other phone scammers are asking for personal information, allowing the scammer to steal identities.
