A popular restaurant in Merivale based on traditional American cuisine has gone into liquidation.
According to documents on the Government Companies’ Website, Sun Dog Diner on the corner of Papanui Rd and Bealey Ave went into liquidation on Wednesday.
Sun Dog Diner was owned by Southern California-born owner and chef Jess Lynch, who opened the restaurant at the refurbished Carlton Courts building in March 2017.
Its social media accounts and website have been taken down.
The last ten reviews on Google gave the restaurant favourable 5-star reviews, the highest star possible.
A message stuck to the window of the restaurant said “Sun Dog Limited (trading as Sun Dog Diner in liquidation)
“Please contact Lynda Smart of Rodgers Reidy with any enquires.”
Social media users were saddened to hear of Sun Dog Diner’s demise with one person saying “a damn shame, one of my favourite joints in Christchurch! The Philly cheesesteak, the Mexican eggs bene.”
Another user said it had the best Mac and Cheese and chili in the city.
“This is one of the few places that was ever worthy of 5 stars. A really sad day when Denny’s exists but Sun Dog doesn’t.”
