Police will remain at a central Christchurch address overnight as the investigation into a serious stabbing on Fitzgerald Avenue continues.

Officers were called to the property at about 12.20pm, where a man was found in a critical condition with injuries “consistent with being stabbed.”

The man was rushed to hospital by ambulance, while another person was arrested.

A scene examination and wider Police investigation have been ongoing throughout the day, with a scene guard remaining in place overnight.

Detective Sergeant Caroline Johnson said Police would continue to have a visible presence in the area while enquiries progressed.

“A scene guard will remain in place in central Christchurch overnight as Police continue to investigate a serious assault,” Johnson said.

She said increased Police visibility was expected while the guard remained, and reassured the public there was not believed to be any ongoing threat to public safety.
