The police stand off in Beatrice Place, Avonhead has come to an end, with one person in custody as of 11PM.

No injuries are reported during the 9 hour stand off.

As first reported by Chris Lynch Media, police initially downplayed the incident, despite a significant police presence and armed officers in the area, reported by multiple witnesses and residents.

Multiple residents also reported seeing police point their guns at the house, which was confirmed in photos sent to Chris Lynch Media.

A police spokesperson earlier confirmed they responded to the incident on Beatrice Pl, Avonhead, and “encouraging a person to come outside of the premises”.

“The person is reported to have a firearm and police negotiators are in dialogue with them,” police said.

Superintendent Lane Todd said “Enquiries are ongoing and there will continue to be a Police presence, including cordons, in the area.

“Police would like to thank the residents of Beatrice Place and the surrounding area for their patience while we worked to resolve this matter safely.

“I’d also like to acknowledge the work of Police staff in attendance, including the Police Negotiation Team who worked for over eight hours to achieve this negotiated resolution safely for all parties.”

A neighbour said “Well done to the police negotiation team and all the police involved.

“We could hear all the negotiating from our house and they did an outstanding job – hope he’s now getting the support and help that he needs.”
