A police operation is underway in Riccarton.

Clarence Street, between Princess Street and Blenheim Road, has been blocked off by police.

A spokesperson said the operation is related to an incident at 5.20pm, where a person was taken to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are in the early stages of determining what happened but understood the incident occurred at the dog wash Splash and Dash.

A local resident told chrislynchmedia.com several police officers were investigating the area near the dog wash, with evidence cones placed nearby.

At this stage, no further information was available, the spokesman said.
