Police have been following strong lines of enquiry after a shooting in the Christchurch suburb of Wainoni on Monday evening.

Detective Senior Sergeant Jo Carolan said the incident was believed to be isolated, and there was no increased risk to the public.

The victim sustained a single gunshot wound and remained in a stable condition in hospital.

Carolan said police were concerned about the dangerous and violent act occurring in public, and officers had increased their presence across Christchurch as part of reassurance patrols.
