Police deploy helicopter to track offenders after reckless driving across Christchurch

Christchurch police contracted a commercial helicopter to track and help apprehend offenders driving recklessly across the city.

A police spokesman told chrislynchmedia.com just before 1PM, officers were alerted to a burglary where a group of offenders stole two vehicles from a private property near Memorial Avenue.

A short time later, police received several reports from members of the public about the vehicles being driven dangerously or acting suspiciously.

A commercial helicopter was used by police to assist in tracking the offenders as they drove through Avonhead, Burnside, Sockburn, and other parts of Christchurch.

One of the vehicles was later found abandoned on Avonhead Road.

Three offenders have been located and charged.

A 23-year-old man is due to appear in Christchurch District Court today, charged with burglary.

Another 23-year-old man was remanded in custody and is due to appear in Christchurch District Court on 8 August, charged with burglary.
Police said the investigation is ongoing as they work to locate the remaining vehicle and identify those involved.
