Police are currently dealing with significant traffic congestion on State Highway 1 in Ashburton, near the intersection of East Street and Kermode Street.

A truck has caused damage at a rail crossing, blocking the intersection.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area. 

Diversions are in place while the crossing is repaired.
