Christchurch Police have blocked off part of the central city this morning following an incident on Lichfield Street.

Witnesses said officers were seen blocking the section between Colombo Street and Durham Street just before 8AM.

The police incident was happening at the Litchfield Street car park.

Authorities are urging the public to stay away from the area.
