A person has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a moderate condition after a lightning strike in Rangiora this afternoon.

St John said it was notified of an incident on Kingsbury Avenue at 2.34pm and responded with one ambulance and one rapid response unit.

One person was transported to hospital for further treatment.

Rangiora resident Alison Clay captured the lightning strike outside her house, nearby to where another person was injured.

Alison told Chris Lynch Media she took the footage on the northern end of White Street, in the Carmana Gardens area, in Rangiora.

The incident occurred as thunderstorms moved across the Canterbury region, bringing heavy rain, thunder and lightning.
