A person has been seriously injured in a crash in Upper Riccarton.

A police spokeswoman told chrislynchmedia.com the crash involved a car and a moped and was reported about 3.30pm.

A St John spokeswoman said they attended the crash at the intersection of Blenheim Road and Penn Place with a rapid response unit, operations manager, and an ambulance.

One patient in a serious condition was transported to Christchurch Hospital.

Traffic management is in place.
