A person has suffered serious injuries in a crash in Avonhead this morning.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services responded to a two vehicle crash in the southbound lane on Russley Road, Avonhead reported at 8:20am.

One person was trapped in their vehicle.

Traffic management was in place at the scene.

Fire and Emergency crews also attended the scene.

A St John spokeswoman said they sent an ambulance and treated and transported one patient to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition.
