A person has died following a crash on State Highway 8, Tekapo earlier this afternoon.

A police spokesperson said they were called to the scene at 3.17pm on Fairlie-Tekapo Road, near Lilybank Road and Edwards Stream Bridge.

One person died at the scene, a second person has sustained moderate injuries.

It’s understood a van rolled.

Two Fire and Emergency appliances from Fairlie and Lake Tekapo attended the scene.

State Highway 8/Fairlie-Tekapo Road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit attend the scene.
