As Orana Wildlife Park nears its 50th anniversary (in 2026) the Christchurch-based attraction is calling on the public to help shape its future direction.

New Zealand’s only open-range zoo is undergoing a strategic rethink of its visitor experience and marketing, and is inviting 30 to 40 members of the public to join focus groups to provide feedback and ideas.

The initiative is part of a broader plan to reflect on the park’s legacy and refresh its offering in response to changing community expectations.

“This is a unique opportunity for the community to contribute directly to the future direction of New Zealand’s only open-range zoo,” a park spokesperson said.

“Whether you’re a regular visitor, haven’t been in years, or have never stepped through our gates, your voice matters, especially if you’ve had strong feelings about your visit, good or bad.

“We want to hear from people who care deeply about wildlife, conservation, and the role Orana plays in the region.”

The park is aiming to involve a diverse cross-section of the community in the process.
