One person has died following a crash on Lewis Pass Road (State Highway 7) in Canterbury overnight.

Emergency services were called to the single-vehicle crash at around 9:50 pm.

Despite efforts from first responders, the person died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination overnight as police work to determine the cause of the crash.
