Two patched Mongrel Mob members have been arrested following a series of police searches targeting gang-linked properties across Christchurch and North Canterbury.

Police executed several search warrants over the past two weeks at addresses believed to be connected to Mongrel Mob members. During the searches, officers seized methamphetamine, firearms, ammunition and several thousand dollars in cash.

Detective Senior Sergeant Damon Wells said police also uncovered what is believed to be a “chop shop” during the operation, recovering a number of stolen vehicles.

A further five vehicles were also seized by the courts due to unpaid fines linked to those involved.

Two men, aged 34 and 29, were arrested as a result of the searches. Both are patched Mongrel Mob members and have been remanded in custody.

The 34-year-old is scheduled to appear in the Christchurch District Court on 25 March, while the 29-year-old is due to appear on 1 April.

Both men face charges including possession of methamphetamine for supply, possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of ammunition, and driving-related offences. Police say further charges have not been ruled out.

Wells said police remain committed to disrupting gang activity and reducing the harm gangs cause in the community. Police are encouraging anyone with information about illegal activity to contact authorities via 111 in an emergency, 105 for non-urgent matters, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
