The team at Addington Train Station is celebrating after their much-loved border collie, Cindy, was found safe and reunited with her owner, Kelvin, days after she went missing.

Cindy vanished on Monday morning during a walk at South New Brighton Beach after being startled by a motorised glider. She was last seen running toward the end of Marine Parade.

Her disappearance sparked an outpouring of concern from staff and the public, with her story shared widely on social media.

On Friday, a woman spotted Cindy on Bridge Street, managed to secure her, and phoned Kelvin to arrange the reunion.

“Kelvin got a call from a lady who said she had spotted her on Bridge Street,” said Catherine Adams from Great Journeys NZ. “She was able to grab her and pop her in the car while Kelvin got there to be reunited. He said she’s looking really well, just a bit hungry.”

Cindy is part of the Great Journeys NZ family at Addington Station, where she accompanies Kelvin daily to help with yard work, gardening, and cleaning.

Earlier in the week, Adams described Cindy as “our station mascot and a true hero dog.”

“She greets us all with enthusiasm and brightens every single day. Everyone here loves her, staff and passengers alike,” she said.

The team said they are thrilled to have her home and thanked the community for its support.

“Cindy means the world to us,” they said. “We’re so grateful to everyone who kept an eye out and helped bring her home.”
