A Managed Isolation Facility in Christchurch was evacuated this morning.
A Managed Isolation and Quarantine Spokesperson said a fire alarm went off at the Sudima Managed Isolation Facility at 8.30am.
Fire and Emergency NZ responded and staff and guests were evacuated.
The spokesperson said all infection prevention and control protocols were followed.
“MIQ staff ensured physical distancing was maintained and that shared bubbles within the facility were standing together.”
“The risk was also mitigated through the use of face masks, which returnees must wear outside their rooms, and correct hand hygiene practices.”
“There are no Covid-19 positive cases currently staying at the facility.”
“This was a false alarm and returnees were returned to their rooms by 9.15am.”
