A man seriously assaulted in central Christchurch has undergone multiple surgeries, but his family said his condition was improving.
Wynton King was attacked and knocked out on Hereford Street, while he was walking to a bar on Sunday 23rd October.
He was rushed to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition and placed in an induced coma in ICU.
An 18-year-old man was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to injure, while two others received warnings from police.
His sister Amber Sowman said despite the odds against him, including suffering a stroke, brain surgery and jaw surgery, Wynton has made improvements.
“We are in disbelief. Over 30K was gifted [on a Give a Little page] by you all to help Winnie’s immediate family.
You have all contributed in assisting us to remain at his bedside with no financial burden. Words will never be enough to express our gratitude.”
Amber said the family was proud of Wynton and the progress he was making.
“The road ahead is long with bumps, twists and turns but without your help, we wouldn’t be here with him and we thank you Ngā mihi nui.”
440 people have donated a total of $30,625 over 16 days to the Give a little page.
Chris Lynch Media understands police are still reviewing multiple video footage of the assault.
